JoAnn is responsible for oversight of all of Rocket Fuel’s legal affairs, including creating contracts, protecting intellectual property, and ensuring compliance and proper governance. She also serves as Rocket Fuel's chief privacy officer, overseeing data protection and privacy policies. She comes to Rocket Fuel with 19 years experience providing leadership in legal affairs.
Prior to joining Rocket Fuel, JoAnn spent 14 years with leading interactive entertainment company Electronic Arts. She worked in three key roles: From 2008 to 2012, she was the Division Counsel for EA’s Maxis label, home to EA's key entertainment brands The Sims and SimCity; from 2003 to 2008, she was Senior Counsel for EA’s Intellectual Property Policy and Practice, serving as the company’s primary IP counsel; and from 1999 to 2003, she worked as Senior Legal Counsel, Licensing and Intellectual Property. During her tenure at Electronic Arts, she led an IP legal team, re-invented the company’s patent program, and developed the company's ecommerce and data protection policies and practices. She also served as EA’s senior legal counsel, managing worldwide litigation from 1998 to 1999. Before joining Electronic Arts, JoAnn was an associate with Fenwick & West, where she represented computer software and technology clients in trademark, copyright, patent, and contract disputes.
JoAnn also worked as a guest lecturer at Stanford Law School in 2000 and 2001, where she contributed to the Negotiation Seminar offered through the law school's Gould Negotiation and Mediation Program.
JoAnn has a BA in Government, summa cum laude, from Clark University; and a JD, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
